Sanjuro,

I have a video of myself practicing on my own.

Be warned, though, it is a very bad practice of Yobu. I hadn't been able to re-record the improvements I have been practicing on.

Each time I watch this I can't help but cringe at everything I am doing wrong.

I took this in January 2007.

I think it will be very difficult re-uniting Genwakai.

On the otherhand, it is just great to have some friends all over the world that share the same passion.
Actually I am in Japan at the moment and enjoying training with my friends.

Where will you be staying in Japan? I hope you have great fun!!

Nice to see a face with a name! Yobu is quite an intense and and explosive kata.. keep up the good work :-) (There is a small movie on yobu on the net, but could not find it anymore)

If I got to this point would I be able to defend myself against pretty much anybody in a street situation? This does have some exceptions like some dude just pulling a gun from 20ft away but hear me out. I have had 4 years of karate/jujitsu. I also have about a year or so of boxing and muay thai experience. I will soon get to the point where I can squat 500lbs or so bench 350lbs and deadlift 600lbs. would i be able to defend myself against pretty much any assailant. I know there might be some extreme exceptions but still what do you think?

Those are some impressive numbers. Going by just numbers alone, you seem like you would be sufficiently strong enough to defend yourself against any assailant that comes your way.

However, experience is your greatest indicator of how you will do. Having 5 years of martial training is nice, but how quick are your reflexes? How ingrained is your muscle memory, or your situational awareness?

My idea for you is to keep on training and prepare for any situation, because you'll never really know. And it doesn't hurt to always be prepared.
